Your Story Medicine

Since 2021 I have documented Jumakae, a Long Beach based storytelling coach, podcast host, Business Alchemist and Life Doula. You can learn more about Jumakae at her website, Your Story Medicine (YSM) you’ll notice all of the photos from our sessions together on her site!

Because Jumakae understands the value of brand photography and works with many soul centered entrepreneurs, we have made a perfect match and collaborated now 3 times for Jumakae retreats. I have been invited to 3 of her retreats to photograph her clients and provide them with their own embodiment portraits to use for their business needs. First in July 2021, her 1.5 day retreat in Long Beach was an embodiment retreat and twice in 2022. I know the future brings many more opportunities for collaborations. Scroll through the photos below to see all of our work together.

June Marisa Kaewsith, also known as “Jumakae,” is a professional artist, wellness consultant, and storytelling coach. After spending her twenties as an artist and community organizer inside of nonprofit organizations, she began craving an alternative narrative to healing and justice beyond the struggle. Curiosity led her back to Thailand, where she studied with a traditional midwife to learn the ways of her ancestors. That’s when she realized that all of our ancestors were entrepreneurial, filling a need in the community through their sacred offerings. Thus sparked her calling to assist others in remembering their magic.

Your Story Medicine Brand Session

Embodiment Retreat, July 2021

Testimony from Edith Arias

What was your experience with working with Karissa? It was great to have guidance and have freedom in choosing how to move and be encouraged to flow and connect with the energy I wanted to embodied. I often feel pressure to be professional in portraits and in images for anything professional. It was great to have space and an opportunity to connect and explore different options to how we choose to show up.

Would you recommend Karissa to others?: Yes, I would highly recommend her specially if you are trying to be more authentic with how you choose to show up.

Testimony from Erica @thevoiceportal

What was your experience with working with Karissa?: As with a lot of people, I'm sure, I was having a difficult time getting into my body at the beginning of the shoot. Karissa made me feel at ease and held such sacred space that enabled me to play. I remember finishing the first look and being surprise about how quick it was. I felt more confident in the second look because of the props and people I was interacting with - and Karissa somehow managed to capture the essence of genuine moments without making a huge deal out of it - her words of encouragement never snapped me out of the moment (as I have experienced with other photographers). I thoroughly enjoyed my time... but I was floored by the finished photos. FLOORED. I didn't know that I could look like THAT. Just by using her photos, my website has never looked so professional, so consistent, and soooo sleek. It has definitely boosted my self confidence as well as my ability to show up for my business.
